An Iphone or a Kindle, Please

I was reading back through some old posts on John Chow and found one wherein he describes a fellow Canadian blogger asking for a new Mac.  She just asked.  And someone sent her one.

So, for the record, there are two things I really, really want.  An Iphone and a Kindle.   Just in case someone out there is in the mood to send me one or both.  Just email me and I’ll send you my address and you can ship it right off to me.

In truth, asking for what you want is a huge spiritual lesson, and as with all lessons of any sort, its a huge writing lesson also.   I’m a believer in the school of thought that the universe will give you what you ask for, if only you ask.  (Oh, and the other catch is that you have to be very, very clear on what you want.)

Some of us know this and utilize it in our everyday lives but fail to follow it when it comes to writing.  But why not?  Why not utilize the power of the universe and ask for what we need when it comes to writing?  I do it all the time.  Try asking for ideas, for story lines, for characters to speak to you, for the discipline to commit to writing 3 pages a day.

I’ve been thinking about this because it is one of the tenets of the Writing Abundance workshop I’m going to be presenting in Nashville in September (and also possibly in LA, Portland and Eugene over the summer).

I wrote a post awhile back about formalizing this process with a Request Book, an idea which my coach, Tess Daniel, gave me.  I highly recommend it.

Ask for what you want, even if it is something so simple as clarity–or as materialistic as an Iphone.  (Or a Kindle.)

Even though I forgot where I read it, I do remember reading an article along the same lines. Seems that if you ask your credit card company to lower it’s interest rates, often not, they will actually do it! Same goes for discounts on large purchases. It doesn’t always work, of course, but as I said, often times it does.

Good point to follow in writing too

don’t think I will pray for these things. they might be nice to have if I work hard enough

I do agree – just ask and I think one of the reasons its works is that you get more focused. What you are focused on, you’ll get more of, you know:-)

Btw: I would much more asked for a Nokia N95 since iPhone don’t have GPS.
