Otherwhere: Oh Glorious Sunny Days

Yeah, the title has nothing to do with the content of this post, but everything to do with how I’m feeling.  It is a perfect spring day in Oregon and here are some of the great links I’ve read this past week, or maybe a little longer.

Your hero embodies the theme.

Fiction triggers-where do ideas come from?

Oh, right. And then there’s that matter of talent.

Make writing that first draft easier. (I could have used this with my just-finished mess WIP.)

Keeping goals and writing fresh.

How to show internal dialogue. (Please read this if you are a writer who loves to put thoughts in italics.)

If, like me, you are obsessed with the never-ending quest for the perfect journal, you’ll enjoy this post.

How free-lancers find ideas.

Marketing

Behind the scenes of a bestselling launch. (I was part of the “street team” that helped promote this book, and getting a bit of an inside view of the operation was fascinating.)

Blogging for authors.

Other Good Stuff

Keep a scratchpad handy.

Practicing presence.

Laura’s Munson’s lovely tribute to the late Jim Harrison.

What have you been reading about lately?

Thus far, I’ve only looked at the first writing link and the first marketing link. They are great. Charlotte, your blog is an essential stop for any writer on the web. Where else can you get great info, make great friends, and enjoy the company of a great host? Thanks.

Aw, you’re so sweet J.D., thank you. And I’m so grateful that this blog brought us together and made us friends!

Practicing Presence. Love this. And to expand, I’ve done some things to clear the clutter. Physical and virtual. Spring is always good for that. Living in the present is something I listed as a goal for 2016. It can’t just be done. You have to be intentional about it.
I am currently reading “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert. Good fundamentals. I’ve only just begun but I’m highlighting the high spots and making notes. She’s got some good thoughts.

“You have to be intentional about it.” So wise, so true. And so dang hard! Geez.

I’ve been clearing clutter, too. As a matter of fact, I spend Saturday doing just that with boxes that had accumulated upstairs. I love walking through the cleared-out area where they used to be now. And beyond clutter, my house really, really, really needs some spring cleaning. I’m not the best at it!
